Loved Wanaka!
Absolutely loved my stay here! Lynn and Jeff were a true host! Great sense of humor and always available! My room was very comfortable, spacious and clean! The lounge set up is perfect. Ladies bathroom had two showers, two toilets and three sink with face towels always available. The kitchen area was large with anything you may need as well some extras like coffee, tea and sugar. Very well organized!
They also had a hot tub and a lounge area which I didn’t use! Car park was available inside the property! To me the highlight was the complimentary bike available to ride around lake Wanaka! It was so much fun! There are so many bike paths around!

Extremely Well Appointed
Altamont lodge had everything you need and well organised. Our room was well appointed with queen bed and double bunk and lovely view to the garden. We took full advantage of the laundry facilities and the comprehensive kitchen which has every appliance you might need to cook up a banquet. Host was lovely and helpful. The hot tub Time Machine was a bonus after a long hike.

Peaceful and clean, it has everything you
need to stay for several days or just a night or two.
Altamont Lodge is simply the perfect place
to stay in Wanaka. It’s super clean, peaceful and in a quiet area of Wanaka.
Just a short 1km walk to the lake and Millennium trail & another kilometre
to the town & shops. I truly appreciate the spacious kitchen where you feel
like you are at home. Each guest gets their own shelf to put food in both the
pantry and in the fridge. The cleanliness is outstanding. Lynn & Jeff are
excellent hosts, friendly and welcoming. We love staying here and have been
doing so for the past 25 years. Thank you and we will be back.

Warm, Welcoming Lodge – Incredible Staff
Altamont Lodge was genuinely one of the best places I stayed on my entire trip. The shared spaces are fantastic — open, cosy and social without ever feeling crowded. The kitchen is huge and unbelievably well-equipped, with every utensil you could ever need, plus instant coffee and hot water always ready in the boiler (which, as a caffeine addict, I deeply appreciated 😄). The rooms were thoughtfully spaced out, and the 10pm quiet time was actually respected by everyone, which meant I had some of the best sleeps of my trip — something that’s surprisingly rare in shared accommodation. But what really makes this place special is the staff. Every single person I met was warm, friendly and genuinely happy to stop for a chat. They made the lodge feel less like a hostel and more like a little community. I was also blown away by their kindness. I accidentally left behind something very important and hadn’t even left my phone number — yet they went out of their way to track me down using a number I’d called from earlier in the week just to make sure it got back to me. That level of care and effort says everything about the people who run this place. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful part of my Wanaka trip. I couldn’t recommend Altamont Lodge more highly — I’ll absolutely be back.

Altamont Lodge has 12 private rooms – a mix of single rooms, double rooms or 3-4 person family rooms. All linen and towels are provided for your stay. The rooms share separate male and female bathroom facilities.
Please Note: there are no rooms with en-suite bathrooms at Altamont Lodge.

Self Catering Kitchen
The fully-equipped kitchen, with two stove tops and two ovens, allows for easy self-catering with a large pantry and fridge and freezer space for food storage. There are plenty of pots and pans, rice cookers etc available for all your cooking needs. Many travellers prefer accommodation with a kitchen as it is often cost effective to eat, healthier and a welcome alternative from dining out when on a budget. A Nespresso machine is available for espresso coffee (the local supermarket sells pods) and there is a Nutribullet for making smoothies. A BBQ is also available for guests, and outdoor seating in the established gardens is popular on warm summer evenings.
The large dining area allow privacy for individuals, couples and family groups, but also provides an opportunity to meet other guests and share stories about your travels and adventures in Wanaka and around New Zealand.

The spacious, warm shared lounge area is available for all guests to relax and unwind after a day exploring Wanaka. The roaring log fire is the perfect place to enjoy apres-ski on a winter’s evening, following a day of skiing and snowboarding in Wanaka at Cardrona or Treble Cone. In summer, the garden offers shade from the sun and expansive lawns for any family with children to play.

Altamont Lodge is conveniently located close to many of the best attractions and things to do in Wanaka.
The town centre with its selection of great cafes, restaurants, shops, supermarkets and cinema is only a few minutes’ drive from Altamont Lodge or just an easy 20-minute walk along the lakefront which passes the famous Wanaka Tree.
Altamont Lodge is a great base for walking and hiking in Wanaka. The lakefront tracks and trails are only a few minutes’ walk from the lodge; the Roy’s Peak Track is a 5-minute drive away, and access to the wilderness of Mount Aspiring National Park is
just a scenic 50-minute drive.
For mountain bikers, the lodge is centrally located so you can easily ride to access Wanaka’s extensive network of tracks and trails. There is secure bike storage onsite and an area to clean your bike at the end of the day. Bike rental is available from several sports shops in town.
In winter, it’s a 20-minute drive from Altamont Lodge to the base of the Cardrona, Treble Cone or the Snow Farm ski areas

LOCATION
Altamont Lodge is situated in a peaceful and quiet location less than 2km from central Wanaka. Follow the Mt Aspiring Road south around the lakefront and Altamont Lodge is well signposted on the right-hand side of the road, making it easy for guests to find. There is plenty of off-street parking on site.
The lodge is less than 5 minutes drive from Wanaka town centre or an easy 20-minute walk along the lake edge. Altamont Lodge is also ideally situated for easy access to all Wanaka’s ski areas in winter, as well as walking and biking trails in the spring, summer and autumn.
